Kaitlyn Farrington

Professional Snowboarder

Growing up on a ranch outside of Sun Valley, Idaho, Kaitlyn Farrington spent her younger years rodeoing. Little did she know, the confidence and skills she picked up in her adolescence on the ranch would take her to the top of competitive sports.

Soon after her twelfth birthday, Kaitlyn traded the farm for the frasiers - picking up skiing and snowboarding and immediately falling in love. By her senior year in high school, Kaitlyn's talent and passion for winter sports catapulted her into the limelight, where she realized her potential to be amongst the best snowboarders in the world. In 2010, Kaitlyn competed in her first Olympic cycle, and made her first pro podium. After having a taste of the top, she set her sights for the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games.

Four years after Kaitlyn's inaugural Olympics, her style had developed and she was competing at the top of her game. The night of the finals, Kaitlyn's dreams were actualized; consecutively nailing the best runs of the snowboard halfpipe event. Standing atop the Olympic podium with a gold medal around her neck, Kaitlyn was on top of the world.

Eight months after her monumental night, Kaitlyn discovered she had congenital cervical stenosis, a diagnosis that would change her life forever more. After accepting the bitter reality of her situation, Kaitlyn made the decision to be a “grounded snowboarder", thus clipping her wings and dashing any hopes of a future in competitive snowboarding.

In the coming years, Kaitlyn turned tragedy to inspiration where she found a new ride, and a new way to enjoy the mountain. Now regarded as one of the best backcountry snow guides in the world, Kaitlyn chases the next perfect power day and shares these incredible moments with kindred spirits.
