How do you chase your sun?

Justin Quintal, Indonesia

At Costa Tequila, our passions are what move us forward. From tequila making, to family, to pursuing thrills in equestrian locales - we are always chasing the sun. For Costa Ambassador Justin Quintal, his passions recently took him to the Indonesian archipelago where his search for the perfect Summer wave was the main focus. We caught up with Justin over a cocktail to hear about the trip, and was too good not to share.

“It feels good to return home from my first trip to Indonesia and enjoy a cold Costa Tequila cocktail!” Justin says. “I spent 29 days bouncing between Bali, Lombok, and Java chasing swells and long left tubes filming for an upcoming Vans surf project with my favorite young surfer, Tosh Tudor.

My first trip to Indo was a proper one, a journey filled with epic waves and many adventures that took us deep into the Jungle away from the ease of Bali. We scored Desert Point on the island of Lombok three times, Temples in Uluwatu, and pumping G-Land on Java!

I also tested how sharp the reef was a few times and ended up with a pretty nasty infection on my foot mid way through the trip. Some limes and my favorite tequila would have helped in that situation, but thankfully cheap over the counter antibiotics and ointments were readily available in Bali.

At times we were threatened by an array of wild animals - from monkeys to rats there wasn’t a day that went by where curious eyes weren’t on us. We took every mode of transportation to get to these waves - boats, scooters, cars, ferries, and planes… but despite the hurdles it was always worth it.

The trip feels like a fever dream, possibly because I also have a fever after all that travel. Although it’s nice to be back with my people and enjoying the comforts of home, I already miss the long blue tubes and dangerously beautiful shallow reef. I know I’ll be back, one day.” - Justin Quintal
